Spark and Lemonade Day: Supporting Entrepreneurship, One Cup At A Time
A cup of lemonade is never just a cup of lemonade. Even when life hasn’t given you lemons, learning how to make something of your own is a valuable lesson no matter your age. That’s why Spark Energy is proud to support the efforts of Lemonade Day, a Houston-founded youth entrepreneurship program dedicated to helping today’s youth become the business leaders, social advocates, community volunteers and forward-thinking citizens of tomorrow…one lemonade stand at a time!
Lemonade Day is a strategic lesson-based program that walks youth from a dream to a business plan while teaching them the same principles required to start any big company. Inspiring kids to work hard and make a profit, they are also taught to spend some, save some and share some by giving back to their community. Since it’s launch in 2007 here in Houston, Lemonade Day has grown from serving 2,700 kids in one city to 1 million children across North America. Lemonade Day sparks the spirit of entrepreneurship and empowers youth to set goals, work hard, and achieve their dreams.
Using Lemonade Day to teach kids how to start, own and operate their very own business is never be possible without the help of many parents and organizations who support the power of entrepreneurship. In 2017, there were over 97 lemonade stands in Houston alone! For many students, this is their first experience setting a goal, making a plan, and working their plan. These students will leave the program with bigger dreams and new confidence to maybe start their own business one day.
It was a great day to see awesome kids at Discovery Green Park marketing their lemonade. Among the many lemonade stands, Spark employees got to meet several wonderful kids of all ages as well as interact with other community leaders.
A special thanks to Kira Jordan, Monique Vu, Jordan, Scott Johnson, Eric Melchor, David Otte, Juan Trevino, Courtney Watts, Mike Kuznar, Brian Hoogendam, Christian Hettick, Rody Grant, and our generous supporters!
